Education and Training

AHRDA Program – Dehcho First Nations has administered the Aboriginal Human Resources Development Agreement programs in the Dehcho Region since 1999. The AHRDA program provides individual-focused training funds available to all First Nations, Inuit and Metis people residing in the region. The AHRDA program will come to an end on September 30, 2010.

ASETS Program – Dehcho First Nations will transition to the new Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy program on October 1, 2010. Dehcho First Nations and communities throughout the Dehcho Region will develop their strategic business plans keeping in mind the ASETS strategic priorities: Demand driven skills development; Partnership with the private sector and across the whole of government, and; Accountability for improved results. The ASETS program will provide an opportunity to modernize Aboriginal labour market programming.

ASTSIF Program - Deh Gah Gotie Koe First Nation submitted a successful Aboriginal Skills & Training Strategic Investment Fund proposal entitled “Fort Providence Community Trade Skills & Training Program – Building Capacity”. Twenty-four Aboriginal clients are enrolled in the 16 month project which started on November 23, 2009 and will continue to March 31, 2011. The project objective is to provide under-employed Aboriginal clients with training in the field of construction as well as valuable work experience through a college training program while working towards certification as a Trades Helper or to continue into an apprenticeship program.

Scholarship Program – Dehcho First Nations has provided scholarships to its members since 1995. The scholarship fund has grown from $5,000 to $87,000 annually. Members pursuing their post-secondary education on a full-time basis are invited to submit their scholarship application for one of the 42 scholarships.
